Abstract: Diabetes Care 2024;47(9):1-8 | https://doi.org/10.2337/dc24-0203 ARTICLE HIGHLIGHTS Why did we undertake this study? The association of diabetes with dementia is age dependent and is only characterized in relative risk scale. It is important to estimate the absolute dementia risk by diabetes age of diagnosis across the late life course, to inform dementia prevention strategies. What is the specific question(s) we wanted to answer? Does the lifetime risk of dementia differ by age of diabetes diagnosis? What did we find? Individuals who were diagnosed with diabetes before age 60 had earlier dementia onset and a higher risk of dementia than those diagnosed after age 60 and those with no diabetes.
